Take the stress out of homeschooling— And let us take care of the admin tasks.
We understand.
At the Beaming Light Nature Academy, we understand that you decided to homeschool to spend more quality time with your children. You wished to cater your child’s education to their unique learning type and preferences. You wanted your children to spend more time outdoors. We get it.
As the year goes on, however, portfolios and midterm reports are due, your child is being assessed, and what you thought would be an enjoyable experience quickly becomes stressful with strict deadlines and competencies to conform to.
The Oasis Program is designed to fulfill all the requirements necessary from the government, in just 5 hours once a week! Every week, we will send you a recap of what your child completed, as well as pictures of their accomplishments in each subject.
We cover: French, Math, English, Science, and Social Science for Cycle 1.
-
FRENCH
Every week, we start with a Read Aloud in French, practice the pronunciation of French words and vowels following J’Apprends à Lire by Sonya Gauthier, and learn 10 new vocabulary words from Astuce et Compagnie that we will learn with games and practice the following week. By the end of the 10 weeks, we will have learnt over 100 new words in French!
-
MATH
Every week, we solve a situational problem together, and cover one chapter in Nelson Mathematics, the government’s favourite math book ;) In the 10 weeks, we will cover the topics of: Sorting and Patterns, Numbers to 100, Data Management, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Linear Measurement, Place Value, and 2-D Geometry.
-
ENGLISH
In English, we will practice reading with phonics using Phonics Pathways by Dolores Hiskes, learn age-appropriate grammar using First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise, and learn to spell new words which we will practice for the Spelling Bee at our last session! (Which parents are welcome to join :)
-
SCIENCE
Every other week, we will be incorporating science into the program through hands-on experiences, learning how to care for nature, and STEM activities. Science will be explored alongside either English, Math, or French, depending on the topic. Science lessons will take place on October 18, November 1, 15, 29, and December 13.
-
SOCIAL SCIENCE
By the end of the 10 weeks, you will have 3 traces for each of the following subjects: History, Geography, and Citizenship Education. These subjects will be taught along with the French, Math, and English classes. Each week, we will combine 2 topics into the main curriculum, to ensure all competencies are fulfilled.
-
SOCIALIZATION
Your child will have the opportunity every week to meet with other kids their age, forge new bonds, and present orally to the group. And maybe you can also meet up with friends or spend some extra time on self-care! Or perhaps focus on your other homeschooled children for the day, knowing that your Cycle 1 child is well cared for.
